Christmas and The Strike

More info on Boo's Christmas Angels here.

" With both sides back at the barricades, many believe the writers strike won't be resolved until March at the earliest.

Optimism for a quick resolution as negotiations resume Tuesday has faded to nearly nonexistent. In the aftermath of last week's lifting of the news blackout about the talks, each side played the blame game and stressed how insulted it's been by the other's recent conduct.

The WGA has eased up on its hardline stance in one area -- it granted a waiver for writing on Sunday night's telecast of the Kennedy Center Honors. Although the guild has said previously it was mulling such actions, the program represented the first reported instance of a guild waiver since the strike began Nov. 5."

The Jericho Impact

Jake Green says, " I'll show you impact."

"Online impact is a factor in series planning"

" “The ability to maintain a strong online presence is now critical to getting a series picked up as well as its long-term viability,” says Jeffrey Stepakoff, author of TV memoir Billion Dollar Kiss: The Kiss That Saved Dawson’s Creek And Other Adventures in TV Writing and a former writer on Dawson’s, one of the first series to interact with fans online.

“TV shows were picked up this season specifically for how well they could be repurposed and expanded on the Internet,” he says.

“Many of these shows have entire narrative worlds which exist between episodes on television. Look at Jericho. And these shows drive huge amounts of traffic to the parent sites.”

CBS, Variety, and TiVo

Myles at Cultural Learnings talks to CBS about Jericho.

It's all in the communication.

Variety has a great idea for CBS:
"Idea is to create a new batch of Internet stars (think lonelygirl15), as well as provide marketing opportunities for entertainment brands that want to be associated with young talent. (CBS, for example, might want to hype "Jericho" by offering a walk-on role on the show as a prize)."

"Foxman: CBS 'facilitating' anti-Semitism"

"CBS has taken a fifty percent ownership stake in the online talent search Big Shot. According to Variety, they are attempting to move their TV syndication model to the Internet."

"How desperate is network TV getting about the proliferation of ad-zapping DVRs? Check out this ridiculous study from NBC Universal."

"U.S. TV season could see weaker CBS - study"

"Formula for TiVo-proof Ads Remains Elusive"
