The WGA and AMPTP

"It seems that neither the Writers Guild of America nor the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers can prevent themselves from surrendering the hard-fought PR high ground in the ongoing Hollywood strike.

When the producers took their ball and went home in a petulant huff to shut down the last negotiating session, the guild looked every bit the faithful bride abandoned at the altar.

But, evidently uncomfortable with that reserve of public sympathy, the WGA brought in its lawyers and filed a complaint Friday with the National Labor Relations Board accusing AMPTP of failing to negotiate in good faith. The end result of this poke in the studios' collective eye is that the NLRB will now have to mount a 30-day investigation into the matter -- seemingly guaranteeing no meaningful negotiations until late January."
