CBS: Reinstate Xwarp and Wolf. Clean up your mess.

Digg, CBS, and WGA

"When it comes to technology, Sumner Redstone says he’s not an early adopter, but rather a “non-adopter”, joking about the fact that he doesn’t blog or Twitter. Still, during his keynote address to the Media and Money Conference, he made sure to get across that he’s hip to big digital trends and that CBS (NYSE: CBS) and Viacom (NYSE: VIA) are well positioned to take advantage of industry changes."

"As you obviously know, the Writers Strike started this week. And it looks like it’s going to be a long, hard slog that may not be resolved for months — maybe not even until the Actors and Directors contracts are up next June. That’s a long time, and while there are any number of articles discussing the anticipated consequences of the strike, what about the unanticipated consequences?

By definition, of course, those are impossible to predict. Which is why I’m going to predict them. So, without any further ado, here are six unanticipated consequences of the writers strike."

"The LA Times put together this list of what shows are effected how by the strike as of November 9th. Granted this could change by tomorrow and not all the shows that are effected are listed, but it is a start to understand how bad this is turning out to be and it is only day 4.

Hopefully the WGA strike will end soon and things will go back to normal soon, but it is not looking that is going to be the case and we might be going through all of this again in July when the SAG and DGA contracts are up."

Jericho: Writer's Strike Looms

**I have been blogging Jericho for 7 days a week since May.
It's time to take a break and I've chosen Sundays as my day off.
Thank you all for understanding. Be back Monday.

"The writers' strike would take an immediate toll on television viewers' favorite programs, dealing a setback to shows that are written day-to-day -- such as Jon Stewart's "The Daily Show" -- as well as scripted programming already underway or about to go into production.

However, Jericho has written and filmed all seven episodes so we may be seeing it sooner than expected."

"As Hollywood braces for its television and film writers to go on strike as soon as Monday, more than 500 CBS News employees represented by the Writers Guild of America under a separate agreement with that network are contemplating their own job action.

The CBS television and radio staffers -- a group that includes news writers, editors, desk assistants, production assistants, graphic artists, promotion writers and researchers who work at a local or network level in New York, Washington, Chicago and Los Angeles -- plan to vote Nov. 15 on authorizing a strike."

Jericho: Meebo Chat

Too bad this article doesn't include all the trouble with the CBS/Meebo chat. There is no moderation and the Chat is a wreck. People come in using fake identities because no login is required plus porn links abound even though young Jericho viewers come in the chatroom. It is such a mess that Jericho fans have to use other chats if they want to chat in peace.

This is what CBS offers its' fans? Shame on you, CBS!!!!!!!!!

"This year, Meebo launched Meebo Rooms, which essentially are chat rooms. It has had success parlaying some rooms into larger media partnerships. CBS Corp., for instance, now links to the Meebo chat room about the offbeat TV show "Jericho" and has made it the main Jericho chat room on the CBS Web site.

"We want to encourage lots of different partners . . . to build really super-viral, super-engaged platforms to sit outside of cbs.com," said Patrick Keane, an executive vice president and chief marketing officer for CBS Interactive. CBS provides behind-the-scenes Jericho footage and other tidbits for the Meebo chat room and has signed on as a Meebo advertiser, Mr. Keane says.

CBS says it is working with other sites, including Facebook. Facebook has added programs that offer instant-messaging to its site, which might reduce any advantage Meebo has. Meebo executives and investors say the company has established itself as a destination for instant-messaging, with more than six million unique users logging in monthly."

How Did The Nuts Campaign Change You?

A while back I asked this question on the CBS message board:

We all helped save Jericho by changing CBS' mind and we got Jericho back.

How did the Nuts campaign change you?

Better or worse?

More tomorrow.

Kricka:

This campaign gave me faith that the little people can make a ruckus big enough to at least bend the behemoth that tends to make decisions for us. And while there was ample evidence of this through history, I don't think I had experienced it personally. While, as some say, it's just a TV show, and not finding the key to world peace, it gave me the faith in people I think I desperately needed. It has given me the resolve to keep on keeping on with the other projects in my life that I hold dear. I never thought in my wildest dreams that a television show would ever do that for me.

Openminded1:

One big way the nuts campaign was a change for me is that it was based online. I had never been involved in anything so multi-faceted that was done primarily via the internet. It was amazing to watch and even more amazing to be a part of. People starting finding niches at an unbelievable rate of speed and filling them. It was all so vastly different from anything I have ever seen. This campaign has the potential to inspire many positive changes in society, and is something I am glad my young daughter got to see firsthand. I think this gave me a new perspective on the things that will be possible in the not so distant future.

I thought I was fairly good at thinking outside the box before all this. I have realized that when it comes to undertaking any sort of initiative on the internet, one has to learn to think not only outside the box, but be able to take a 2D box and make it a 3D box.

azlady4:

It made me more aggressive and less passive. I learned that if you feel something is not right then speak up and do something about it. I believe in Jericho. I feel it is more than a TV show, it is a lession in humanity among other things and I felt it was worth fighting for. Before this, I never would have got involved in something like this, but I am glad I did because it got results.

mpbnice:

I learned that sometimes if enough little guys band together they CAN win, even against a huge entity like CBS. I heard over and over that we wouldn't, couldn't get our show back - it was gone, get over it. Guess what, everybody who said that was wrong! Next time something like that happens I won't be so quick to just accept it. I found out that I can call and email total strangers if I have to.

gl9east:

i learned to never give up. and also that nothing is impossible. i learned that i am not the only one who is so passionate about this show.

swenciler:

This campaign has made me very much more internet savvy.

now express my thoughts quicker and when people ask me about my bumper sticker NUTS4JERICHO- I am not afraid to tell them the whole and complete story of the show and the nuts campaign. I just wish I could go to the convention and meet some of the Rangers in person!!

I now believe you can really change anything if you try hard enough!!

bbsitr:

I learned that I am not alone in regards to my feelings about JERICHO. I have grown and have been more willing to fight for what I love. I have learned to actively participate in a campaign to get something done. I believe that I can take on anything I feel is important to me (or to my country). Thank you JERICHO!

Savannahgirl:

It helped me learn to speak my mind a bit more. I'm the kind of person that liked to blend in and not be noticed. I didn't like to "rock the boat" so to speak. This campaign taught me if I want something, I can't be afraid of sticking out or looking NUTS by everyone else. You never get what you want in this life by sitting back and waiting for it to come to you. You have to fight for it!

foxgray1:

I am usually a very timid person who would never try to change anything. However, back in May, when CBS first cancelled Jericho, I actually got sick to my stomach. I believe Jericho is the best show that I have ever seen, and I am a senior citizen, so that is saying something. Over the past 4 months, I have called CBS, emailed them, voted, read and posted on these boards, and I help track the sponsors. It is almost like my love for Jericho has actually changed my personality for the better, and made me more outgoing.

I sure hope CBS will do something like this when Jericho returns!!!!!!!!

"Spooky Frost Promotes CBS Vampire Show
Open the Supermarket Freezer Door, 'Moonlight' Ad Appears"

"After touching down at the supermarket deli, CBS is moving to the frozen-foods section. The Tiffany network's latest promo for its fall schedule involves frosting the doors of freezers with images for its vampire drama, "Moonlight."

Thanks to a technique CBS calls Visual Ice, shoppers will see the name of the series and its premiere date, which is Friday, on the door of a supermarket freezer. When the door is opened, the image of a moon and the lead character, Alex, become visible."

"I've heard of spin doctoring, but this is simply amazing, or maybe pathetic. I just got a press release from CBS bragging that Wednesday's Kid Nation was the second most watched show of the night among children aged 2 to 11. By next week, CBS will be boasting it was first among parakeets and second among household pets overall."

"ABC's spinoff "Private Practice" and NBC's "Bionic Woman" debuted strong in Wednesday's primetime, with "Bionic" so far the top new drama on TV, while CBS' "Kid Nation" faltered in its second week."
