Leaving Jericho

Arabelle's Alley was born from a desire to showcase the Save Jericho campaign in May of 2007; it then evolved into an outlet for Jericho news and information.

This chapter of the Jericho saga is finished. Jericho has been cancelled by the people who can't see the future so it is time for me to move on.

All content will be left online for viewing but I will not continue to post. I would like to thank everyone who contributed, commented, dugg, and those who were faithful readers.

JerichoMonster will remain active but, in coming weeks, will have a different look and broader scope. Jericho will continue to be a part of the Monster.

My friend, Beth, and I are happy to have a new blog named Margie and Edna's Basement. Margie and Edna are fictional characters created by Beth and myself. They have lived in Jericho, Kansas all their lives but have decided it's time for them to branch out beyond their beloved town. We hope you will follow their hilarious adventures.

Fox's 6.8 rating among U.S. households in primetime for the season through March 16 snatched the lead from CBS Corp., according to Nielsen Media Research. CBS has been first for five consecutive seasons, Nielsen spokesman Gary Holmes said."

"Speaking at the Bear Stearns Media conference in Palm Beach, Fla., CBS CEO Les Moonves said he's surprised by Rupert Murdoch's slowdown comments. If CBS has seen any ad sales drop, he says, it's been offset by political spending.

On the eve of the Hulu launch, Les also criticized his competitors' attempts to go online, though he didn't call anyone out by name. He said he doesn't want to see just a regurgitation of programming on the Web. CBS should put interactive programming on the Web, not just replays of TV shows. Three to four years from now we'll have $750 million in digital revenue primarily from CBS properties spread out across the Internet.

Online is going to grow in leaps and bounds, but certain things work better in certain mediums. Says he doesn't want the Internet to just be TV on a smaller screen.

Charter Goes Nielsen

"The Nielsen Co. has struck a deal with Charter Communications to analyze set-top box data from 330,000 homes in the Los Angeles area, the parties said today.

Nielsen has similar agreements with other undisclosed MSOs but the Charter deal goes a step further in that it licenses the ratings company to also create ratings reports from the data that it can then sell to clients. Nielsen said such reports would be available to clients starting in the second quarter of 2008. Adweek is a unit of Nielsen.

Charter struck a similar deal in November 2006 with Nielsen competitor TNS Media Research, which sells reports based on the Charter set-top box data to clients via a syndicated package it calls TotalView. Publicis Groupe's Starcom was the first media agency to sign up and other buyers and sellers of TV time have signed up since then.

Set-top box viewing data has attracted a lot of interest from agencies and their clients who are looking for more detailed analyses about the TV viewing patterns of the consumers they reach with ads. Set-top box data has the potential to offer more detail because it offers a second-by-second look at how viewers watch, as opposed to the minute-by-minute view offered by the current Nielsen national ratings service."

"Using DVR and TiVo does help. Remember CBS shows are advertiser supported shows and so skipping though commercials means the advertisers can more easily ignore you. On the other hand they can’t tell if you’re off making a quick snack or got up to let the dog out. Ratings track how far after the air date a show is viewed and the sooner the better. When possible try to watch in the first three days, and failing that within the first seven.

"Mistakes in Sampling
And there are mistakes. Mistakes that have forced advertisers to lose money. Nielsen has acknowledged, for example, that in Los Angeles that fault rates for Hispanic households have been 27% higher than the rest of the sample. Audits by the Media Rating Council also found that Nielsen’s local people meter system used in New York failed to record viewing data from over 25% of African American homes in the sample.

I have only come across three people who were invited to be a part of the Nielsen family through People Meters and diaries used during sweeps period. All three admitted that with their busy schedules and viewing patterns it was hard to know what they actually watched. In addition, they often forgot to write down what they watched and decided to simply fill in the blanks with their favorites. One couple with a People Meter was on vacation and kept their television on PBS during their whole vacation in hopes of helping the non-commercial station.

In an effort to please advertisers and critics, Nielsen has been doing a few things that it believes are making them a little smarter. While its efforts can be applauded, some of the steps remained flawed."

Another One Bites The Dust

Ben Silverman is probably hating Nina Tassler these days.

Not because he's the chief programmer of NBC and she's the chief programmer of CBS. But Tassler is at least partly, albeit indirectly, responsible for the fact that Silverman is being buried under baby booties.

Silverman has angered "Las Vegas" fans because he canceled the show. Not just because he canceled it, but because the final episode was no finale at all — it ended on a cliffhanger involving Delinda Deline (Molly Sims) being pregnant.

Which precipitated "The Save Las Vegas/Operation: Baby Booties" campaign. Which was in no small part inspired by what happened at CBS last year."

"AT&T has joined two venture capital firms and a Hollywood talent agency to invest in new digital media companies, reports The New York Times.

The VC firms are Accel Partners and Venrock; the agency is William Morris. The partnership seeks companies interested in developing entertainment content and technology.

AT&T hopes to get in early among technologies that might improve the ease with which ads are run on mobile devices."

No, they're not, says CBS. The broadcaster says its online viewership peaks twice each night -- once at 7pm on the east coast, and then again three hours later, when west coast viewers get home.Veoh has told us a similar story, which may mean that while most video is watched during the day, certain types of video -- presumably longer clips or full shows -- are not.

For CBS, viewing for individual shows online tends to peak right before a new episode airs, as fans catch up on ones they've missed. The downside: The more people watch at night, the more likely they are to cut back on honest-to-goodness prime time television, which is much more valuable for the network. CBS execs say that's inevitable, but that it hasn't yet affected ratings."

"Disney is going to raid the TV archives, a move that may allow viewers to watch 50s-era series like "Zorro" and "Davy Crockett" via ad-supported streams or by paid downloads through Apple's iTunes, CEO Bob Iger said at Disney's annual meeting.

Watching Journeyman

Here's a brief interview with Kricka who loves Jericho and Journeyman. I appreciate her comments and will have more from other fans this week.

1. What makes you love Journeyman?

For me, Journeyman was one of those shows that got lost in the mix of new shows this season. I had wanted to catch it because I love a good time travel story. So, I checked it out online and was hooked right from the start. Kevin McKidd as Dan Vasser had a strength and kindness, and a strong love for his family that I found very appealing. As the season went on, the stories became more twisty and we started to get some very interesting answers to his time travel, and his reasons to try and help these people. Many people compared this show to Quantum Leap at the beginning (as did I), but it was so much more than that, because Dan had a whole life and family that directly impacted his new ability to travel. And, like most shows I come to love, it is smart, it is real, and it was obviously conceived by someone (Kevin Falls) who was just as invested in the characters and story and I was.

2. Can people watch episodes online? Where?

Unfortunately, NBC.com has pulled the full episodes from their site, but all 13 episodes that were produced can be found for free on hulu.com and on veoh.com, and are still for sale on iTunes and Amazon's Unbox.

3. Why does Journeyman deserve another chance?

The creator, Kevin Falls, gave us a big present by wrapping up some of the questions in the 13th episode, for fear that the show wouldn't make it past the original 13 episode order, but he did leave plenty of room for more. After watching all 13 several times (I can't help it, when I get obsessed, I am obsessed), I am sick to death of really good shows being yanked without any effort from the networks. NBC smashed us over the head again and again with the Bionic Woman, a show that was seriously flawed and never seemed to recover, yet they barely even mentioned Journeyman right from the start. By the last few episodes, it was as if NBC didn't even know it was still on! The show never really got a chance, and I really think it deserved one. TV viewers do want good TV. There is definitely an audience for a show like this if it had been promoted at all by NBC. NBC has gotten a rep for giving good shows a shot (see: Friday Night Lights, 30 Rock, et al), and I wish they hadn't just shoved this one under the rug.

CBS: Not Most Watched

I think Moonves and CBS need to open some eyes.

"If you spend any time watching CBS you’ll hear them celebrate the fact that CBS is the most watched network. It’s no longer true though. FOX is the most watched network in primetime and its lead is growing.

CBS can certainly proclaim “The MOST watched network among people age 55 and over!”, but outside of that, Les Moonves and the crew at the Eye network have nothing to crow about."

"Not knowing is better than knowing bad news, but seriously, the suspense over the future life or death of “Friday Night Lights”has become excruciating.

To ease the tension, ardent fans are on the march, hoping to force NBC to give “Lights” a chance. Some 40,000 pounds of peanuts saved CBS’s “Jericho,” but will thousands of plastic footballs do the trick for “Lights?”

That’s the goal of the official rescue Web site, www.SaveFridayNightLights.tv, which urges supporters to swamp the office of NBC entertainment chief Ben Silverman with petitions and, yep, little toy footballs. As of mid-February, about 7,000 mini-footballs had been tossed the waffling execs way."

"According to a recently released Digital Life America tracking study conducted by Solutions Research Group, nearly 80 million Americans (43% of the online population) have watched one of their favorite TV shows on the Internet, up significantly from 12 months ago when that figure was just 25%. 20% of the American online population said they watch TV on the web on a weekly basis, and that's ahead of the 14% who say they take advantage of cable's video-on-demand offerings."

Jericho: The Underrated

"I think that if CBS doesn’t pick Jericho up for a 3rd season, they’ll be making a terrible mistake. Everyone knows that Jericho is a fantastic underrated show. By now everyone understands that the Rating system is completely flawed and overrated, no pun intended."

And if that wasn't enough, the three oldest broadcast-TV networks have for decades required another fistful of cash known as an "integration fee." Also worth noting is a very unhealthy longer-term trend for all the big guys (ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC) where there are appreciably more 35-49 viewers than there are 18-34 viewers. The youth seems to be phasing out of TV, and while that can somewhat be masked in the overall 18-49 and 25-54 categories, it won’t get masked forever."

"Earlier talks this year can only help the broadcast networks, who likely are going to have fewer new fall programs to tout due to the recently ended writers strike holding up production schedules and pilot development. The big TV outlets have other problems, too: their prime-time ratings continue to erode and penetration of ad-skipping digital video recorders continues to increase.

That's led to a growing sense among major advertisers that TV commercials don't work as well as they once did. A survey of 78 leading marketers conducted by the Association of National Advertisers and Forrester Research found 62% of marketers believe traditional TV ads have become less effective during the last two years. More than 50% reported that when half of all TV households use DVRs, they will cut spending on TV advertising 12%."

Jericho Fans: Not At Fault

I am very aggravated by the articles that are coming out every day that seem to imply that Jericho fans are somehow at fault for the bad ratings. Can't these people read? Do they ever venture out from their blog? Like this comment:

"Well, you Jericho fans out there can’t say CBS didn’t give your show a chance. Networks rarely uncancel a show as it is, but they did it with Jericho after fans got riled up enough to engage in a brilliant resurrection campaign, but apparently all the publicity from that didn’t generate enough viewers, because Jericho’s Season 2 return from the abyss, starting with its first two episodes, netted well below average numbers."

I beg to differ. CBS has never given Jericho a chance. There was the long hiatus, lack of advertising,summer reruns that were constantly being preempted, and affiliates who replaced Jericho with other programs. Many affiliates did not air the episode last Saturday night.

Furthermore, CBS told us to get viewers. Thanks for telling us to get viewers who don't count unless they're Nielsen families. Let me get my list of all those families that we don't know who they are. Thanks for never giving us any marketing help.

Are Jericho numbers below average? Compared to what? All the strike did was chase off viewers and some have never returned. Ratings are down all around us.

Even Kelly Kahl of CBS says he realizes audiences are down so Jericho's ratings cannot be compared to last year's. What will CBS do now?

This year's Grammy Awards broadcast, after receiving a waiver from the Writers Guild of America, went on as usual in the teeth of the strike but got one of its smallest audiences on record. Likewise, there was much speculation "American Idol" would do its biggest numbers ever, based entirely on the fact there would be so few viewing alternatives. Instead, while far and away the most watched show on television this season, "Idol" is down this year from last.

"The real interesting thing when we get back up is what [viewing] levels are going to be at," Kahl said. "Are viewers going to come back, or will there be a strike hangover here?"

"According to The New York Times, NBC will be committing to a new lineup of shows earlier than any of its competitors, while also inviting advertisers to build marketing plans around specific shows and perhaps to integrate brands and products into the plots of the shows themselves.

The departure places a real question mark on the viability and importance of the Nielsen rating system. Nielsen is not prepared to measure a 52-week season; the bulk of its measure is based on traditional sweeps. Tradition, it seems, is dead.

Whether this decision plays well for the fans of recently cancelled shows, or those on the bubble, has yet to be seen. For NBC, the show is Journeyman. So far, despite the inventive Rice-A-Roni campaign, the best outcome for fans seems to be based on a rumor that a few more episodes of season one might see the light of day.

For CBS, everyone knows the show is Jericho. With season 2, episode 2 ratings being called a virtual disaster, even sympathetic critics seem to think there is little hope left."

While browsing for Journeyman websites I found this one from Australia. I wanted to know more so I asked the owner, Edgeman, to tell me why he started this site and more about Journeyman.

Here's what he said:

"Journeyman started on Australian TV in it's "out-of-ratings" period, which as a start is pretty bad, it means the Australian TV network that showed it (channel ten) did not have much faith in it. Funnily enough they started "Everybody Loves Raymond" exactly the same way, and it took a couple of seasons for them to bring it to prime-time, and within ratings season.

To make matters worse Channel Ten have now moved this (my favourite show) to their Hidh-Definition channel, which means I can no longer watch the show (I don't have a HD set-top box). Luckily there are other means of watching TV shows these days!

I started my web site as soon as I heard that the show was not being renewed. This is the first time I have come out to support a show like this (and yes, I watched Jericho, and many, many other shows that have been cancelled prematurely to be replaced by reality tv dribble).

The purpose of my web site, and please bear in mind it's growing is to provide easy resources for other fans to show their support, it's an "add-on" site to savejourneyman. I found it difficult to get all the resources I needed in one spot (faxes, e-mail addresses, links, etc, etc), so I built my site. I am also about to publish another round of fax / letter templates, again, to make it easier for others to show their support. My feeling is that a lot of people really like the show, and will even post here on savejourneyman.net, but I want those voices, those people heard by NBC & FOX directly.

I am passionate about this show because of the show itself. It is not only the first show that I've come across with SCI-FI concepts that my wife likes and enjoys (almost) as much as me, I just found it to be the perfect package for a show. In terms of acting, script, location, concepts, etc... for me, it's got it all and I believe it would appeal to many, many people (given some proper promotion, lead-in and a good timeslot!!)."

Another Nielsen Error

Here's a concern for all of us. This is what recently happened in Ireland regarding a Nielsen error.
Just one more thing that worries me about networks depending on Nielsen.

"The company that compiles statistics on television viewing has made a serious error with its calculations, costing some TV stations hundreds of thousands of euro in lost revenue.

Channel 6 is threatening legal action over the mistake by AGB Nielsen, claiming it has lost €400,000 in advertising revenue because of the ongoing error. An independent auditor is being appointed to investigate how the mistake - which is to do with the weighting of Dublin audiences in its data - was made."

Esai Morales is a fine addition to the cast, and while I know there are some Skeet haters out there, he is a very good fit as Jake. Jericho: Whack -The -Mole

Remember how Jericho fans showed CBS that they were not being counted by Nielsen ratings? We told CBS that everybody should be counted. Well, Nielsen made a little stab at it but nothing much has changed.

Now Nielsen has a plan to track how many people are watching a TV show via computer.Don't get excited though. This plan won't be introduced until the end of this year. Notice I said introduced and not implemented.

"Last year, when Nielsen came under fire by the fans of several cancelled television shows, I had some faith they could fix it," says Richard Becker of Copywrite Ink.

"Nowadays, it seems more that they are playing whack-the-mole. There is no clear focus. They have to fix the rating system that drive entertainment decisions before they can hope to provide better analytics for something a simple Google program or StatCounter can do."

Jericho brought attention to the Nielsen ratings by showing that viewers were watching online and not just on TV. CBS quickly learned how many viewers Jericho actually had. This began a move to find a way to measure online viewers of any show.

It appears the advertisers are finally jumping on board as well. It's no longer enough for them to know age, race, and gender. Advertisers are now interested in learning how those viewers who watch commercials watch TV. "Advertisers want to know what makes consumers stick with one program, or how they jump from one channel to the next and why."

The landscape has changed. Advertisers want to know what you're watching in seconds not half hours or hours. It'll be interesting to see how this works as CBS has joined with TiVo and TNS Media Research and DirecTV have formed a panel
"whose viewing patterns would also be measured on second-by-second basis."

Changing Jericho

As most of you know there was a time during the Save Jericho campaign when it became necessary for me to have three blogs so I could post assorted news and information about the campaign.

As we are ready to embark on our journey to Season 2 I feel some changes are in order. We won the campaign and Jericho will return soon. I feel that I am spread too thin to provide the depth of coverage I am now interested in pursuing.

Therefore, I am happy to announce that JerichoMonster will remain as the blog for Jericho news and information. Arabelle's Alley will, within the next week, become a blog focusing on TV in general as well as Social Networking. JerichoCentral will remain (for informational purposes) but I will not be updating it after today.

"The Writers Guild of America abruptly scrapped a controversial event it had planned in New York next week targeting investors of CBS Corp., one of the media companies with which it is in contract talks.

The guild had invited dozens of Wall Street analysts to a one-hour presentation Tuesday on how the 3-month-old writers strike has negatively affected the television networks and CBS in particular.

The unusual event was part of a strategy to pressure conglomerates through their shareholders to reach a deal with writers. But it prompted an angry response from some executives whose studios are in talks with the writers.

As of early Wednesday, several analysts contacted by The Times said they were planning to attend the session. By late afternoon, however, guild leaders had decided to pull the plug, according to two people close to the matter. Guild officials declined to comment."

Writer's Strike: 86 Days

"With the writers' strike in its 86th day, the town's running out of patience -- despite hints of progress at informal meetings to lay the groundwork for official WGA negotiations to resume.

SAG muddied the picture Tuesday by blasting the DGA's two-week-old tentative deal, prompting an immediate rebuke of SAG's leaders by DGA president Michael Apted.

SAG's dismissal of the DGA deal may dash hopes that the directors pact would serve as a template for a WGA deal and get the scribes back to work in the next few weeks.

In a message to SAG members, prexy Alan Rosenberg and exec director Doug Allen amplified previous prounouncements that the DGA deal would not automatically be the model for a new SAG deal -- echoing what WGA leaders were saying before they launched the informal contract talks last week and began a news blackout.

"Some have rushed to anoint their deal as the 'solution' for the entertainment industry," Rosenberg and Allen said. "We believe that assessment is premature."

1. Lionsgate has made a deal with the writers' guild and the writers are no longer on strike at Lionsgate. Lionsgate is the company that makes Dresden Files.

2. Paul Blackthorne's (Harry Dresden) character was just killed off on Big Shots. Big Shots is the show he went to when Dresden Files wasn't renewed.

3. A new poll from NBC Universal asks if people like shows dealing in magic and the supernatural. What better suits this than The Dresden Files?

4. Bonnie Hammer (the head of the SCI FI Channel and the one who had Dresden Files canceled) has stepped down from her position as head of programming for the SCI FI Channel."

"Today the Writers Guild of America (WGA) announced two new interim deals, one with Marvel Studios and another with Lionsgate. This is very good news for comic book fans as films as Marvel Studios Chairman David Maisel says, "We're very excited about our summer releases, Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk, and look forward to resuming work with writers on our future projects including Captain America, Thor, Ant-Man, and The Avengers."

From what I understand, Iron Man was finished prior to the strike, but I wouldn't be surprised if Louis Letterier took the opportunity to go back and reshoot some scenes from The Incredible Hulk had there been some that just didn't quite work, but couldn't be changed due to the strike. "The battle between the Writers Guild of America and the broadcast networks began focusing more heavily on the daytime daypart last week. For the first time since the strike commenced in early November, the networks began airing soap opera episodes not written by WGA members.

The WGA for several days picketed in front of ABC headquarters in New York, primarily to protest its airing of All My Children episodes written by non-WGA members. ABC is the only network to produce all of its soap operas, while Days of Our Lives on NBC is produced by Corday Productions, and all of the CBS soaps are produced outside the network, including two by Procter & Gamble and one by Sony."

"In the latest fallout from the writers strike, CBS has trimmed its development slate, letting go of about 20 projects, most of them dramas.

On Friday, the network contacted the reps for the projects, most of which hail from CBS' primary supplier, sister studio CBS Paramount Network TV. Also affected are scripts from Sony Pictures TV, 20th Century Fox TV and ABC Studios.

I have to admit, it felt weird, after so much time, to see new episodes of Jericho. It took me until about halfway through the first episode, “Reconstruction,” to really settle in. If you haven't been watching the miniseries, Comanche Moon, on CBS then you're missing a real treat. I watch very little television but this is a winner.

"COMANCHE MOON, a new six-hour mini-series based on the book by Larry McMurtry, and the final chapter in the "Lonesome Dove" saga to be made into a movie, will air Sunday, January 13, Tuesday, January 15 and Wednesday, January 16 at 9pm et/pt. Academy Award and Golden Globe Award winners Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana are the executive producers and writers."

This is one of those rare shows where time flies and I didn't even mind the commercials. Maybe that's because I got to see a Jericho Promo.

I have to hand it to the cast. They are superb. Val Kilmer, one of my favorites, is outstanding. Steve Zahn can make you laugh then make you cry. This is the first time I've seen Karl Urban but he does a fantastic job here. I see great things in his future. Then, there's Rachel Griffiths. I love her on "Brothers and Sisters" but this role gives her such depth. She plays her character to perfection.

Last but not least, the performance given by Melanie Lynskey almost blew me out of my chair. You can bet I won't forget her name. I remember seeing her in "Rose Red" but that's been some time ago. I also predict great things ahead for her.

CBS has sloted the Dion special -- the singer's first since wrapping up her five-year stand in Las Vegas -- for Feb. 15 at 9 p.m.

On Jan. 25, Brooks will headline "Garth Brooks: Live in LA!," which will chronicle the first of Brooks' planned five concerts over two days. Special will originate live from the Staples Center, with CBS airing the hour at 9 p.m."

There were some that I didn’t mention because I didn’t have confirmation that they were returning and when. One of those is Supernatural, one of the best series running these days. I’m happy to report that The CW has confirmed that Supernatural will return with new episodes on January 31st. There won’t be many new episodes though because creator Eric Kripke mentions in an interview with TV.com that they were only able to complete 12 episodes of season 3 before having to stop production due to the writer’s strike. Since we’ve already seen 8 of those episodes, which aired last fall, we only have four more to look forward to and I don’t think the strike is going to over within the next month. So, will these 12 be all we get for this season?"

The post is very well done and Myles didn't start out as a big Jericho fan.

"And they might have found their entrance into the minds of television viewers, as the Writers’ Strike has allowed Jericho to be emerging at a time when CBS will have little else on their schedule. By the time February 12th rolls around, CBS will be dipping into their corporate sibling Showtime for content, and a majority of their original programming will be gone. As a result, Jericho will be better able to capture the attention of the viewers it so desperately needs to survive.

However, I don’t think this is a story about survival or desperation - even if the series debuts to disappointing ratings, it won’t be enough to take away the real impact of this story. Whether the new episodes of Jericho garner ten million viewers or ten thousand, its return will signal a new era for television. In the creation of social networking sites like Hey! Nielsen, or in future campaigns and correspondence when a series is canceled, there is a new respect forming between the people who make television and the people that watch it.

But this obviously doesn’t extent to the networks, or the producers - the continuing Writer’s Strike is the reason for the (Hopefully) in the title of this event. Jericho fans, like so many others, have made it clear that it is not the studio heads who they thank for Jericho’s return - it is the people who created the show, the writers who made it possible and the people who brought the series to life. While we will all enjoy Jericho’s return in February, I also hope that it shall coincide with an end to this strike. Because, if not? Nuts to you, Producers."

The Newspaper Guild announced Thursday it had filed unfair labor practice charges with the Natl. Labor Relations Board against the WGA East, alleging that the guild rewrote language in a previously ratified contract. The filing by TNG, which reps 19 employees at the WGA East, also asserted that the WGA East had threatened a union leader and delayed paying holiday bonuses.

A ticked-off Trekkie is suing Christie's and CBS Paramount for selling him more than $12,000 in allegedly phony memorabilia from "Star Trek: The Next Generation."

Ted Moustakis, who's been a "Trek" fan for nearly 40 years, contends the upscale auction house sold him knockoffs last year of a visor and a table touted as one-of-a-kind items from the hit television series."

"TV Guide's Michael Ausiello reports that VERONICA MARS creator Rob Thomas has considered continuing the cancelled series a comic book...but has been warned off the project by the WGA. Thomas says:

"I had a second meeting with DC comics. I heard that the [WGA] didn't want [TV writers penning TV-based] comic books during the strike as it would promote a network property. We're investigating whether there are similar hurdles for a defunct TV series like Veronica Mars. Naturally, I won't be writing it if the Guild doesn't want me to, but we're hoping that's not the case."

"Jericho" was a show that started as a hit, and was expected to be on for some time to come. It had some great acting talent in the form of Gerald McRaney and Skeet Ulrich, and a powerful story that was completely different from anything else on television.

However, CBS thought it would follow the lead of other networks and try something different -- why not give it a long winter hiatus, and make viewers clamor for it even more in the spring.

It was a gamble that nearly cost "Jericho" its life. By the time the show returned, viewers who were interested had moved on to other things, and the audiences were only a fraction of what they were. CBS pulled the plug, and the rest was history."

"Yahoo news is reporting that both The 4400 and The Dead Zone have aired their last new episode. USA Network reportedly isn’t even going to air a finale for either show. According to Yahoo, there may be a slight chance that another network will pick up the show but with the Writers’ Strike, it wouldn’t help! USA Network – get your act together. Finales help bring closure to fans. Don’t know what they could send you but take a lesson from Jericho and CBS. Would you want your office littered with, oh I don’t know – water bottles perhaps."

If you haven’t gotten caught up in Jericho’s post-nuclear nightmare, you really should. The show has a lot to offer fans of dynamic storytelling, from mysteries, drama, and even potential conspiracies. Basically, the series has something that appeals to just about anyone, and could easily turn into a runaway hit if given the chance."

“Jericho” fans exploded everyone’s expectations by getting CBS to bring the show back. I thought they were nuts, but the “Jericho” faithful did it – partly by sending tons of peanuts to network suits.

OK, obviously that wasn't every great TV moment of the year, but these moments stood out for me. Now it's your turn. What were 2007’s greatest or most memorable TV moments? And remember, we're talking about good things. We'll have another list for strange or gross moments later."

"CBS released a new promo video today called CBS Explosions. Its tag line is "If you thought 2007 was explosive... just wait till 2008!!" Moonlight is one of the shows they selected to use in it ~ along with CSI, Cane, Jericho, Without a Trace, NCIS, Cold Case, The Unit, Numb3rs, Criminal Minds, Shark, CSI Miami & NY."

Andy Beard has a nice post today in regards to BlogCatalog's Acts of Kindness on Monday. He says, "I haven't just copied a list of URLs, I have actually visited each site and read every amazing article listed - there is a lot of kindness in the world and many of these stories are quite remarkable and touching."

"If the fans of Journeyman ever needed a reason to bombard NBC with boxes of Rice-A-Roni, this is it:

NBC tells TVGuide.com that Bionic Woman has not —I repeat, not — been canceled.

If it is indeed true that Journeyman won’t get its back nine episodes, this is the biggest television injustice since Jericho was unceremoniously canceled by CBS."

"We purchased five books yesterday. And randomly selected five different cities. Within those cities, we chose five random addresses. And today, all five books will be packaged and placed in the mail. Five random acts of kindness."

"As my act of kindness, from this point on, I would like to use my blog as a tribute to all rescued cats and dogs and the people who gave them a new life. These animals have experienced being lost, mistreated, abandoned, usually spent time at local shelters and/or rescue groups, and then adjusted to their new permanent home. They've been through so much in their short lives, and I admire their adaptability."

"Without first-run episodes of TV's biggest scripted hits, the nets hope a handful of original scripted shows will draw eyeballs. Among them: CBS' Jericho, the return of NBC's original Law & Order and the premieres of Fox's Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Canterbury's Law and New Amsterdam.

Most buyers believe those shows could benefit from limited competition. But with ratings at most networks down versus a year ago—even factoring in increased DVR usage this season—several advertisers questioned whether broadcasters have the promotional muscle to create awareness for those programs.
